The iron silicon (FeSi) alloy sputtering target is grayish brown in colour which consist of iron and silicon metal. In the industry, it is usually made of coke, steel shavings, and quartz (or silica) as raw materials, smelted in an electric furnace to make iron silicon alloy. Since silicon and oxygen are easily synthesized into silicon dioxide, ferrosilicon is often used as a deoxidizer during steelmaking, at the same time, silicon dioxide emits a large amount of heat when it is generated, it is also beneficial to increase the temperature of molten steel while deoxidizing. Iron silicon can also be used as alloy element additives, widely used in low-alloy structural steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel and electrical silicon steel.
Iron silicon is often used as a reducing agent in ferroalloy production and chemical industry. In recent years, iron silicon alloy have gained new application in thin film coatings due to their special properties and are important alloy varieties in the smelting industry.
